Overdoing it

Whenever I visit my parents, they seem to always want to go and eat at the local RSL or Diggers club.  It wasn't just a restaurant or cafe within these places that they wanted to go, it was almost always the all you can eat buffets they wanted us to go and attack.

That was fine by me, but there was definitely a strange mentality that overtook me when I was confronted by the mountains of food in all the bain-maries.  I was on a quick trip back to Australia and for some reason the short time away had already made me crave certain foods I couldn't get in Hong Kong.
None of the food was particularly great in terms of its style or complexity, but it was plentiful.  My short time in Hong Kong had already taught me a lot about the poor quality of produce there as well, so the high quality of the ingredients more than made up for any loss in preparation.
There really was so much of it.
I cannot stress just how much of it there was.
If I had had more sense, I would have stopped and made better decisions.  Instead, I kept eating and eating and eating.  The food was there, and the old thoughts of getting the best "value" for my money crept into my mind as I shoveled the food onto my plate.
I was much older than I once was, but I clearly wasn't any wiser yet.
