Cheeeeeeeeesecake

OK, I think this baking thing may be starting to get a little out of hand... but I really don't care!

The other night, I decided that I wanted to bake a New York Cheesecake. This was the result.

It turned out amazingly well. Nice and creamy. They sure use a lot of cream cheese though!

Oh God..... my back.....

I strained my neck the other day. I was doing pull-ups at the gym and when I finished I felt a sharp pain in my neck. I didn't worry about it at first, thinking that it would go away. However, it didn't go away and it seemed to remain progressively painful even after several days of resting.

So after days of pain, I finally succumbed to the continued insistence of Dave and Angus to go and see them at their brand new clinic. Yes, that's right. I have friends who are a chiropractor and a remedial soft tissue therapist and yet I still put it off.... I'm odd. These brothers have opened up a clinic together in Manuka, a swanky part of Canberra.

How nice is their business card? Very sleek isn't it? They have a cool red theme going on for the whole clinic which contracts well to the white walls of the clinic.

Dave (who is the chiropractor, and who was a few years above me at boarding school) got to work on me first. When he first cracked my neck, I honestly thought that I wouldn't be walking again... the sound was incredibly loud! Yet within moments, the pain in my neck was decreasing significantly. Here he is sitting smuggly at his desk, thinking about future tortures he will put my spine through.

Here is Angus (the remedial soft tissue therapist). He and I were in the same year at boarding school together so we go way back. Once Dave is finshed on my neck, he will palm me off to Angus to ensure that my back remains in line.... look at him working hard!

What beer am I?

Todd put me onto this test to see what type of beer I am.... apparently he is a Guinness.

You Are Heineken

You appreciate a good beer, but you're not a snob about it.
You like your beer mild and easy to drink, so you can concentrate on being drunk.
Overall, you're a friendly drunk who's likely to buy a whole round for your friends... many times.
Sometimes you can be a bit boring when you drink. You may be prone to go on about topics no one cares about.

I like pie.

I think that pie is a very underrated thing. The other night Lil' Fionna and I decided to bake a few pies. We ended up baking three pies, two chocolate pies and a cherry pie.

Here you can see Lil' Fi and Kathy attacking the piping hot cherry pie just as I've taken it out of the oven.

Here are all three pies, cooling on my window sill (I know, it's very cliche isn't it?)

Chocolate pies!

Special K!

Special K? What am I talking about? I'm talking about Kosta of course.

Last weekend, I was able to see Kosta for the first time in months as he came down from Sydney to visit family and friends in "the Berra".

It's a little odd not having Kosta around anymore. Hopefully, I will find myself a nice job in Sydney as well once I finish my final year of university.

Also at breakfast was John and his new girlfriend Aurelia (I sure hope I've spelt that correctly.... nice name though isn't it?)

John is still in Canberra, he's only a five minute drive from me as well. However, the unpleasantness of writing my thesis made it a little difficult to meet as often as I would hope.

And here is a nice picture of John's sister Sarah and Kosta.

It's in a can!!!!

On my parents' most recent trip to Canberra, I found myself a little bored waiting for them to prepare themselves for dinner.

I decided to busy myself by rifling through the fridge inside their hotel room to see what was being stocked.... what I found was a little disturbing.

Now I am a fan of the gin & tonic. I enjoy the drink. I like the taste and often order this drink. However, there is something about gin & tonic in a can that just seems to be not only a disgusting thought... but also bordering on the alcoholic....

God Save the Queen!

Living in Canberra can be an amazingly boring experience. A population of 300 000 people spread over a huge space of suburbia tends to be relatively relaxed and laid back... even more so than normal. However, during one long weekend every June, Canberrans all come together to celebrate the Queen's birthday. A good time can be had in Canberra during the long weekend by;
a) Leaving Canberra; or
b) Blowing up a small part of Canberra.

So on a cold, rainy Saturday night. A group of us gathered to combine alcohol and fireworks to see what would result.

Nick decided that it would be a good idea to siphon some petrol out of his car so that we could set fire to some wet wood that we had (notice the hose in his hands...)

All he managed to get was a lung-full of petrol fumes that left him choking and spluttering on the ground.

The fireworks did end up being very nice, though it was less fun when some of the rockets fell over and began to shoot at US instead of at the sky.

The rain falling gave a strong contrast to all of the fireworks that we eventually set off.
